How long is the course? The duration of the courses varies. The duration is listed on our schedule page. In order to maximize the benefits you will receive from the course and to provide you with as much interaction as possible with the instructor and other participants, we do limit the number of students per course and per webinar session.
The maximum number varies from course to course. We keep webinar numbers per session at a set level in order to encourage interaction. For the short certificate courses successful students will require 3 to 5 hours each week, including the fortnightly webinar.
For advanced diploma programs successful students are likely to spend between 10 and 15 hours per week in order to cover the material adequately and to gain sufficient knowledge in each program topic. These estimates are an average based upon student feedback over several years.
Of course for some subjects, students will need to spend less time and for others more than the average. The bottom line is that a student who is committed to good outcomes will need to invest the time to gain maximum benefit.
This time would be required to ensure the material is covered adequately and sufficient knowledge is gained to provide sound, enduring and immediately useful skills in engineering.
EIT operates almost all year long, so your studies will continue most weeks of the year to enable you to achieve the qualification in an accelerated time period when compared to a traditional semester-based system. For some programs, particularly post-graduate, the study load will be greater. We understand that furthering your education is a huge commitment, and most of our students have full time work as well as family commitments.
We will do whatever we can to assist you in the course. Almost all instructors are available to help via email, Moodle or Skype, and depending on the situation extensions are available for assignments if need be.
You simply contact them via your dedicated Course Coordinator. An additional one-on-one webinar with the instructor is possible, although an additional cost may be incurred. All materials required for our online learning courses are available in electronic format.
We use a Learning Management System called Moodle, which acts like a course website and student portal. On the Moodle website you will be able to access your course materials, receive and submit assignments and grades, use forums, live chat facilities and much more.
Essentially, it comes down to depth of coverage, your investment in time, degree of understanding and background qualifications and experience. The diploma or advanced diploma focuses on the nitty gritty introduction to the topics. It requires you to dedicate 10 to 15 hours per week to achieve good grades.
The advanced diploma has a very strong practical or vocational bias focussing on applying your knowledge to the job as soon as possible. You will not be covering deep theoretical concepts. On the other hand, the Graduate Diploma is at the level of the first year of a two-year Master of Engineering degree.
